This position is ideal for an information technology professional with experience in maintaining and setting up local area networks. This position starts at a salary of $54,573.00. Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.
EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
This position is being announced under FEMA's CORE Program (Cadre of On-call Response/Recovery employees). These positions are authorized under P.L. 93-288 to perform temporary disaster work and are funded from the Disaster Relief Fund. Appointments are excepted service, temporary appointments. This is a 2 year temporary appointment in the Excepted Service. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position. You must successfully pass a background investigation. Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/59. This position may require occasional non-emergency travel. This position is located in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region VII. The incumbent will serve as an Information Technology (IT) specialist for the Kansas City Regional Office and related disaster Joint Field Office and Long Term Recovery office operations. The incumbent reports to the Information Technology Branch Chief. However, when assigned as a member of the Regional Incident Management Team (IMAT), the incumbent will adhere to the priorities and other duties as assigned by the IMAT Team Leader.
Typical work assignments include:
Manages the installation and maintenance of the information network for the region
Plans, installs, integrates and maintains existing local area networks(LANS).
Installs and recommends installation of new or modified LAN or LAN segments including hubs, switches, routers and LAN cabling infrastructure.
Participates in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing and documents network software.
Reviews malfunctioning PCs, workstations and/or associated hardware to isolate defective parts.
You qualify for this position at the GS-09 level (starting salary $54,573) if you possess one of the following :
One full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS- 07 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as 1) Installation of IT hardware including PC/Laptops, printers, scanners, storage devices, switches, network cabling standards and other IT peripherals 2) setting up network administration for new users to include logins and passwords, user rights, group policies and computer security 3) assisting with the installation or repair of new or existing LAN or LAN segments including hubs, switches, routers and LAN cabling infrastructure 4) testing and documentation of network software.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
