Pharmacy Technician

The Outpatient Phone Triage Pharmacy Technician is primarily responsible for management of incoming pharmacy phone calls and prescriptions requests; secondary responsibilities include filling prescriptions within the central outpatient pharmacy. Duties include but are not limited to:
Receives telephone calls and answers patient inquiries related to process questions. Refers clinical and other judgmental questions to the supervising pharmacist or designee. Documents patient interaction in electronic medical record, as appropriate. Relays information related to medication recalls, shortages and substitutions by contacting patients and/or mailing notifications as directed by pharmacists. Assists supervisor to detect problems with automated refill system. Notifies supervisor immediately of potential or actual system issues. Assists patients with refill requests on medications that are out of refills by collecting prescription information and completing refill request process which involve counting, prepackaging, reconstitution, measuring and selecting required medication items or components, and labeling with prescription and appropriate auxiliary labels. Reviews orders for completeness and fills order accurately, selecting drug products prescribed by their trade or generic name, and assembles completed orders for pharmacist review and check. Maintains Scriptpro for maximum utilization of automated systems through maintenance, appropriate robot usage, inventory management, etc. Fills controlled substances (class II-V) prescriptions for refill, mail out and window patients, in the absence of controlled substance technician Management of CMOP cancellations due to backorders, addresses, etc. Trains and/or orients employees, students and volunteers thoroughly, concerning work procedures as required. Assures that assigned ward inspections are completed and submitted in a timely and accurate manner in clinical measures. Provides adequate training for technicians, pharmacists, inspectors, and students, as assigned. Work Schedule:

Candidates must possess a high school diploma, or equivalent; OR at least three (3) months experience. Candidates must be certified by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required for this position. (Must be submitted with application. Pharmacy Technicians appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Chapter 2, Section D, paragraph 5a. In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must meet the requirements for the GS-06 grade level:
One year of experience at the next lower level (GS-5) AND- Must fully meet the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities as determined from your supporting documents:
Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot operational problems and refer for appropriate actions. Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment. Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for compounding with aseptic technique for hazardous materials such as oncology agents. Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic technique for routine sterile products. Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized areas such as emergency carts. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated by the ability to input prescriptions and medication orders. References:

The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, involving standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time, typing, walking within KCVA medical center, KCVA off-site locations and non-VA community care offices/facilities. Additionally, occasional lifting and carrying of pharmaceutical supplies may be required as well as bending, stooping or stretching.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
