Medical Instrument Technician (Polysomnography)

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Follows up on new PAP therapy set-up at 30 days, annually, and as needed for compliance assistance. - Titrates PAP prescriptions per protocol. - Documents therapy and supply changes per KCVA protocols. - Receives and acts on assignments for a variety of difficult examinations on compromised patients for planned, urgent, and emergent tests. - Performs the full range of complex procedures using specialized equipment that requires precise adjustments to respond to individual patient needs, conditions or test sequences. - Performs sleep monitoring (PSG) on individuals with a variety of sleep disorders, including but not limited to; possible sleep apnea, arterial desaturations secondary to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or other medical conditions, narcolepsy, parasomnias and periodic limb movement disorder. This duty would include Day Studies, MSLT Studies and coverage for night shifts. - Demonstrates knowledge of respiratory, neuroanatomy and physiology, basic electronics and electrical safety, general knowledge of PSG instruments, pattern recognition, and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence the PSG. - Demonstrates knowledge of respiratory, neuroanatomy and physiology, basic electronics and electrical safety, general knowledge of EEG instruments, pattern recognition, and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence the EEG. - Explains procedures and positions patient to insure comfort during a variety of tests, taking into account the patient's age, mental and physical status. - Selects from a wide variety of electrodes and determines the best suited for each individual case situation. Experience:
1 year experience in Home CPAP/BiPap Management, PSG, MSLT, Day Study and EEG experience preferred. Grade Determinations:

Experience:
Applicants must have at least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and fully meet the KSA's at that level. This would be experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge required in order to provide all aspects of polysomnography services. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSA's and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSA's designated by an asterisk ( ). Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of the more complex examination and treatment procedures and techniques in order to provide training and supervision in these procedures, to evaluate and initiate performance improvement projects, and to write policies, procedures, and protocols, that pertain to Polysomnography. 2. Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements.3. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels. 4. Ability to manage and supervise employees. 5. The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; frequent bending, reach, stooping, and stretching to set up and take apart equipment and apparatus; lifting and repositioning patients; and pushing or pulling heavy objects such as oxygen tanks and/or equipment. The work may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average dexterity to perform intricate respiratory therapy procedures.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
