Medical Technician (Specimen Processor)

Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Accurately processing all samples that arrive in the laboratory by aliquoting and refrigerating or freezing samples according to the test ordered. - Shipping samples to reference laboratories accurately and in a timely manner, and inputs results from reference laboratories. - Performing testing and testing of proficiency survey testing as a check on accuracy of laboratory results - Maintaining accurate laboratory records and entering test results from reference laboratories - Following proper PPE protocol and infectious control policies - Assist with Phlebotomy as needed; collection on bone marrow patients (when required) and Sundays as needed - Performing appropriate levels of maintenance on all equipment in the accessioning area and keeps sufficient inventory of supplies - Meeting the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings and/or technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled OR, Education:
To qualify based on education only for this grade level you must have one year of graduate level education directly related to the work of the position, or have completed an internship as a Laboratory Medical Technician. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as prolonged standing, bending over equipment, reaching for supplies or materials, and lifting moderately heavy items such as centrifuges and record boxes (or occasionally lifting heavier items such as reagent packs). The work may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as dexterity (to perform intricate collection or analysis procedures) and color vision. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
