Medical Technician

Duties include but not limited to:
Collects, labels, and processes a variety of specimens (drawing blood by means of venipuncture, obtaining urine and other specimens); Performs a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; Maintains laboratory equipment and controls supplies; Uses established procedures to calibrate, control, and maintain a variety of instrumentation and laboratory equipment; Participates with and assists physicians and nurses in patient medical emergencies, etc.; Maintains examination rooms with medical equipment, supplies and forms; Performs more complex patient care procedures such as collecting sterile specimens, collection of urine for chain custody (legal) urine drug screens, processes specimen and paperwork appropriately and provides instructions to patients for a variety of specimen collections (i.e. fasting requirements, 24-hour urine collections, sterile urine collections, and timed specimens for therapeutic drug monitoring); Practices proper identification of all patients to assure the accuracy of the specimen collected and documentation of the collection; Participates in meetings to enhance patient services and clinic efficiency; Responds to requests for assistance from patients and family members, visitors, etc.; and Performs all other duties as assigned. Must have experience performing phlebotomy and other specimen collections on human patients to include drawing blood by means of venipuncture (Must be able to draw blood using a needle) AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:

You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. -AND- In addition to the language requirement and Selective Placement Factor, to qualify for this Medical Technician - Phlebotomist GS-5 grade level position, applicant(s) must also possess at least one of the following minimum qualification requirements. Experience:
Requires one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal service that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Qualifying specialized experience includes:
(a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings; or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled; and performing phlebotomy and other specimen collections on human patients to include drawing blood by means of venipuncture, obtaining urine and other specimens. Resume must clearly demonstrate the required experience to be creditable. -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled. Major study includes instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology). -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience, as described above, are also qualifying. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
