Physical Science Technician

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. FOR THE GS- 07 GRADE LEVEL:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level) that demonstrates:
operate a variety of instruments such as autoclaves, centrifuges, balances, grinders, blenders, and pHmenter; diagnosing instrument malfunction in order to prevent erroneous results; assist with analyzing chemical and physical testing methods including chromatography, spectrophotometry, and spectrometry; and assist with compiling results of test data, based on analyses, interpretation, and statistical evaluation to provide to leadership. (Must be reflected in resume) OR Education:
Must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or one full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field of study directly related to the position that provided the knowledge, skills abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. (Must submit a copy of your transcripts.) OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS- 07 GRADE LEVEL:
Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. To compute, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your graduate education as a percentage of the graduate education required for the grade level; and then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. OR FOR THE GS- 08 GRADE LEVEL:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS- 07 grade level) that demonstrates:
analyze a full range of chemical and physical testing methods including chromatography, spectrophotometry, and spectrometry; compile results of test data, based on analyses, interpretation, and statistical evaluation to provide to leadership; prepare samples for various programs such as weighing, grinding, extracting residues, evaporating solvents using different complex methods; and operate a variety of testing equipment to prepare and analyze samples. (Must be reflected in resume) OR Education:
Must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field of study directly related to the position that provided the knowledge, skills abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. (Must submit a copy of your transcripts.) OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS- 08 GRADE LEVEL:
Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS- 08 grade level) that demonstrates:
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work in the fields of astronomy, physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, health physics, engineering, electronics, geology, oceanography, and metallurgy. Experience as a laboratory mechanic or in a trade or craft may be credited as general or specialized experience when the work was performed in close association with physical scientists or other technical personnel provided intensive knowledge of appropriate scientific principles, methods, techniques, and precedents; apply and adhere to the regulations and standard operating procedures for the safe and proper use and disposal of pesticides and/or hazardous chemicals; Track grain samples to include inspecting the samples noting their general appearance, odor, and damage and records any factors that may influence the analyses; and collect detailed laboratory data records to document test results. (Must be reflected in resume) OR Education:
Must have master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field of study directly related to the position that provided the knowledge, skills abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS- 09 GRADE LEVEL:
Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. Only graduate education in excess of one year (i.e., 18 semester hours) may be combined with experience under this standard. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TRANSCRIPTS are required if:

This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university Physical Demands The work may require that the incumbent lift samples or equipment weighing up to a maximum of 50 lbs. and remain standing for extended periods of time. The work also may involve occasional exposure to irritant chemicals. Special safety precautions and protective clothing are required in those instances. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
